The School of Design and Arts (SDA) is committed to fully implementing the Party’s educational policies and the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. Oriented toward Shanghai and Yangtze River Delta’s advanced manufacturing industries,SDA emphasizes the unique integrationofmanufacturingwithdesign, highlights interdisciplinary collaborative innovation, and aims to cultivate high-level, interdisciplinary, and application-oriented design professionals.SDA graduates are equipped to engage in cutting-edge design and R&D in the fields of aerospace and intelligent products (equipment), and possess strong capabilities in solving real-world industrial problems, systematic design thinking, specialized knowledge, advanced professional skills, integrative innovation competence, and sound professional ethics.

SDA comprises six departments and offices: the Department of Art Design, the Department of Digital MediaArt, the Industrial Design Center, the General Office for Party and Administrative Affairs, the Office of Teaching and Research, and the Student Affairs Office. It currently offers three undergraduate programs—Industrial Design, Product Design, and Digital MediaArt. Among them, Industrial Design and Product Design have been recognized as Shanghai First-Class Undergraduate Programs.SDA also offers a professional master’s degree program in design, with a specialization in Industrial Design Engineering.

Over the years,SDA has built a well-structured, experiencedfaculty team with solid research capabilities.SDA currently has 38teachers and staff members, including 3 professors and 10 associate professors, with 98% holding master’s or doctoral degrees. Six members have received honors such as the ShanghaiYucai Award, Shanghai March 8 Red-bannerPacesetter, Leading Talentof Minhang District, and Shanghai Gardener Award for Innovative Talent Cultivation. Two faculty members have won awards in municipal or higher-level teaching competitions.

In recent years,SDAParty Branchsuccessfully passed second round ofModelUniversity PartyOrganizationMOE assessment.SDAalso received Shanghai May Fourth Medal and became a founding member of the China-EuropeEducationAlliance for Humanities and Arts (underMOE), a vice-chair unit of Shanghai Industrial Design Association, and a recognized Shanghai Municipal Cultural and Creative Internship Base.Withaccreditation of China Industrial Design Association, SDJUIndustrial Design Centerwas further recognized as Municipal-level Industrial Design Center byShanghaiMunicipal Commission of Economy and Informatization.

SDA-industrycooperationalso received national and municipal accolades, including Second Prize of Innovation and Promotion Award of CIUR, Second Prize of Science and Technology AwardfromChina Association of Circular Economy, First Prize for Outstanding Shanghai Industry-University-Research Projects, First Prize for Outstanding University Exhibits at China International Industry Fair, and prestigious international design awards such as Red Star,iF Design, MUSE, and K-Design.SDA educational research projects have been supported byprograms such as National New Agricultural and Cultural Innovation Program, Shanghai Municipal Education Reform Projects, and the Cultural and Creative Industry-Education Integration Leading Project.

SDA has established close cooperative relationships with leading organizations such as China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Shanghai Electric Group,andNCCElectrophysiology. Multiple industry-university-research (IUR) collaboration bases have been established, providing platforms for professional fieldwork, graduation internships, and thesis projects.

While focusing on both teaching and research,SDA integrates its disciplinary strengths and educational advantages to promote learning and innovation through competitions. It actively encourages students to participate in a wide range of professional and academic contests and continuously advances teachingreformto enhance the quality of innovative talent cultivation. Over the past three years, students have been granted more than 30 patents, published over 30 academic papers, and won more than 300 national and international awards, includingtheiFDesign Award, K-Design Award, Contemporary Good Design Award, National Advertising Art Design Competition for College Students,ChinaCreativeChallengesContest, FutureDesignerAwards, and Milan Design Week.
